Following is my old spiel about the journal work …
John O. Harney has been the executive editor of The New England Journal of Higher Education (formerly Connection) since 1990.
In 2009, he began working with colleagues and partners to transform the quarterly print journal to a web-only format, which launched at http://www.nebhe.org in 2010.
In its print form, the journal—America’s only regional magazine on issues in higher education and economic development—reached more than 12,000 leaders of government, business, education and the nonprofit sector in New England each quarter and was frequently cited in the media.
Harney’s work has appeared in a variety of newspapers, magazines and books. His quarterly “Editor’s Memo” columns written for the journal explored key issues facing New England and were reprinted in publications such as the Providence Journal and Concord Monitor.
Harney is also the founding editor of NEJHE’s Newslink and the weekly email NEJHE NewsBlast, highlighting recent NEJHE content and other news around NEBHE.
Harney is a former contributing editor and columnist for Boston-based BusinessToday.com. He is the author of Greater Expectations: College as a Right and Responsibility for all Maine People, the action plan of the Maine Compact for Higher Education, and co-author of “Academic Regionalism: Higher Education Cooperation in New England,” published in Regionalism in a Global Society (Broadview Press, 2004).
