Spent a magical day earlier this month with my brother Mike, whose wife Jane passed away in May.
Jane was a lifelong special educator. This included several years at the Pine Grove School, just through the woods from their home in Rowley, Mass.
We visited the marker Mike dedicated at the school, paying tribute to Jane’s service to education.
We then ate at The Grog, one of Mike’s favorite restaurants for chowder, cornbread and Guinness.
We walked Plum Island, gazing at the coast and tramping through wooded paths astir with chirpy, but mostly hiding, birds.
We soaked in Mike’s beautiful garden of closely spaced roses, hollyhocks, bee balms, hydrangeas, knitbones and endless wildflowers, many medicinal.
And we visited with Mike and Jane’s first grandson, Tommy, who shows the same natural pull toward tools, especially the garden variety, as Grampy Mick.
